Our favorite hideaways to escape the Cold

Escape the winter to eternal spring in Guatemala. We are happy for those who travel to seek lush gardens, and beautiful sunny (and warm) skies during the coldest season. Seek some vitamin D, connect with history and people, and maybe learn a new skill there.

We have collected some of our favorite properties thinking of those who want to escape the crowded cities, open their window and read a book on their private terrace. Thoughts when gathering these article was: Quiet and warm.




Villa Bokeh - This stylish property with a touch of English countryside has timber frames, with canvas walls that blend into Volcan de Agua, on of three volcanoes that frame the town. A restored hacienda, each room has different decoration and a contemporary sanctuary surrounded by six acres of beautiful garden and pond. In the cozy ground-floor living room, guests can browse a selection of framed Guatemalan textiles, some over 100 years old, or enjoy afternoon tea on a plush sofa set before a white-brick fireplace.



The San Rafael Hotel is the best in terms of location. It is 10m away from the Arch of Santa Catalina and 2 minutes away from the coffeeshop. Staying this central has never felt like such an appealing option. Designed with tranquility in mind, this beautiful colonial house offers 7 beautifully decorated rooms. Neutral tones and soft textures make for a welcome stay while exploring the colonial city.


Casa Palopo - Stucco walls painted in deep, jewel tones of blue and orange, combined with the spectacular location and views make this a place that simply would not be found anywhere else in the world. Casa Palopó embraces the local culture and history, while at the same time providing a level of discreet, upscale service that makes guests feel as if they are staying in a private home.

The word Atitlán actually comes from the Mayan word meaning 'the place where the rainbow gets its colours'. As a nod to this, many of the guest room beds in the hotel have a 'pot of gold' trunk at their foot. - The Telegraph UK.




Unicornio Azul - If escaping means no people around then the place is unicornio azul. Perched in the highlands of Central America this lodge is located in a beautiful valley. The Sierra Los Cuchumatanes is the Central American mountain range with the most extensive continuous area above 3,000 m (9,800 ft) elevation, with peaks reaching 3,800 m (12,460 ft). The tableland is characterized by an impressive landscape shaped by glaciers during the late Quaternary (115,000-12,000 years ago).




Anzan - Minimalistic decorated located at the edge of the lake with stunning views towards the volcanoes. It is a bed and breakfast and has a sun terrace and a private beach area. Guests can enjoy a drink at the bar and dinner is only available by request.
